Description
J.J. Johnson’s signature ballad, Lament was best known for the Miles Davis / Gil Evans version from Miles Ahead (1957, Columbia). This arrangement is a transcription from the original track by J.J. and Kai Winding on Jay and Kai, aiming to recreate the recording in an unaccompanied trombone quartet exactly.
Written for advanced ensembles, this arrangement features the top two trombones, but the other two are kept busy with recreating the jazz trio underneath. A smooth, warm sound is recommended to blend the trombones, whilst care must be taken in the upper register to sound sweet.
